A man has been mauled by a 6ft-long shark while on a month-long surfing trip to the Indonesian island of Bali.

The shark bit Ryan Boarman through his right arm near the elbow, tearing through muscle, all the way to the bone.

The 24-year-old surfer, from San Diego, California, astonishingly rode a wave back to the beach where friends and bystanders rushed to his aid.

His father, Bill Boarman, told Fox 5: "He was out waiting for a wave and suddenly felt a really sharp extremely painful bite on his elbow.

A 26-year-old woman has been shot dead while driving in Milwaukee after her son in the back seat of the car got hold of a gun, police have said.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the woman was hit once in the back as she drove on US Highway 175 on Tuesday.

When deputies arrived, the woman had no pulse and was not breathing.

Officers tried to revive the woman, identified by relatives as Patrice Price, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

John Crompton, 31, was driving the family's Nissan from Dijon towards Bourg-en-Bresse when it reportedly veered to the right before going through a barrier and into the wall of a bridge over the road.

Mr Crompton's partner and youngest child were airlifted to Lyon after the accident on the A39 near Beaurepaire-en-Bresse.
